What is Quantum Speed

So... what is the Quantum Speed Process?

Training your skating requires change and is accomplished in a similar manner to training your body through proper periodization, focus and attitude. Making a permanent change in your skating generally does not happen in one week. An understanding of how to be a good skater is not enough. To become a great skater, players need the proper muscle development and strength to support technique. An increase of a player’s speed is the direct result of a more efficient technique combined with an increase in strength and power.

In other words,

Technique

The focus of this week is on your individual style, and mastering your skating technique. We spend this week introducing you to a biomechanically correct stride for your body type. The system we have developed for you is based on the science of physics, body position, correct leg placement, motor memory re-education and force distribution. All of the essential forward and backward skating skills you need will be identified, and enhanced, during your week of technique.


Power

of Power Skating"

During this week we will focus on teaching you effective power transfers, your core strength, and efficient force distribution. This will be your most challenging week, not only physically, but also mentally. The drills you will be practicing include (but are not limited to) Steffany Hanlen's original on-ice core and lower body power exercises, on-ice plyometrics, and aerobic base conditioning.

Speed

"Because it's FUN to skate FASTER!"

The ultimate goal of our program is to increase your speed and confidence. The T+P=S system is designed and based on the understanding that the result of mastering skating Technique, direct and effective Power development, and force transfer is SPEED. When you follow this particular training order, you achieve QUANTUM SPEED. ("attaining the greatest speed using the most efficient and least amount of effort")
You will perform all skills and drills at maximum speed with and without pucks. You will participate in scrimmages that are fast paced to help you practice your new skating skills. An increase in your self-confidence when playing as well as your personal satisfaction with our program are guaranteed.


Why does this system work?
Quantum Speed begins with the basics of perfecting individual Technique first, we let nothing get by us without being fixed. Once the Technique Week is complete, changes to stride and body motion will be noticeable.

With the proper foundation in place for each player, Power Week is built upon and designed to teach the body that force transfer can only happen effectively when strong technique is adhered to. Power week is dedicated to teach efficient and direct force and momentum transfer, in conjunction with proper technique, to achieve gains in strength, core stability and power.
Speed Week is the culmination of the combined Technique and Power adaptations. Everything is done quickly and all skills and drills are designed to teach the body how to change gears and achieve maximum speed with minimal effort.

More specifically, the system works because the laws of physics and the force of gravity works the same for each person. We have learned to take advantage and harness the laws of biomechanics, kinesiology, exercise physiology, anatomy and even some psychology to help individuals skate faster and support them in achieving THEIR goals in hockey.
Speed is both a Mind-Set and Physical Ability.

Why are mental training sessions included in Quantum Speed development programs?
We believe that speed is both a Mind-Set and a Physical Ability.  Speed and confidence are undeniably linked, and have a direct effect on each other.  Quantum Speed’s mental training sessions teach players practical tips and tricks that can be used to improve both mental and physical performance.  These sessions also teach that both confidence and motivation are internal phenomenon which therefore can only be increased or decreased by our opinion of ourselves.  Yes, confidence is difficult to maintain in a negative environment (like some hockey dressing rooms) but there are tools that players can use to protect their confidence and therefore maintain strong performance.
