Age Groups

13 and Older

If your player is over 13, Quantum Speed’s signature programs are right for you. Even older players who haven’t experienced a Quantum Speed program in the past can benefit tremendously from the simple Technique + Power = Speed philosophy we employ to help your player get noticed.

Here are the programs available for players over 13. When you find the one that best fits your skater, click the “more” button to learn all about it!

Q3 Advanced Skating Development Program (Ages 13 and Up) – One of Quantum Speed’s signature programs, Q3 is an intensive skating experience designed to help your skater develop lightning fast speed on the ice.

Q3i Skating and Puck Control Development Program (Ages 15 and Up) – Our advanced signature program, players are only eligible to participate in Q3i after completing the Q3 program at least twice.

Net Results: Self Directed Hockey Development (Drafts and Professional Players Only) – Net Results is NEW in 2010 and is open by invitation or on an as-accepted basis only. For more information, email info@quantumspeed.ca.

Under 13

While Quantum Speed’s signature programs (Q3 and Q3i) aren’t available for players under 13, we have several options for younger players looking to improve their skills and confidence through our world-class training. Find the program that best fits your skater, then click the “more” button to learn all about it!

Basic Skating Development (Ages 6-12) – Teaches basic skating skills and development. Programs are provided through hockey associations, skating clubs and local organizations.

PeeWee Program (Ages 11 – 13) – This program provides an introduction to Quantum Speed’s Signature “Q3” Program.

In addition to Quantum Speed’s programs for younger players, you can also search for programs and instructors in your area. An excellent place to start is the CanSkate or CanPowerSkate programs. The founder of Quantum Speed, Steffany Hanlen, is also the co-developer of the CanPowerSkate program – and it is the foundation for many skating development programs across Canada and the rest of the hockey world.

There are hundreds of great instructors who teach the CanSkate program or something like it. When you look up local instructors, be sure to ask these questions:

  1. What is your instructional philosophy?
  2. What kind of results should we expect to see in our player at the end of your program? (Assuming that our player is present, on-time, and attentive)
  3. Do the players wear full equipment? Do they use a stick? (This is not important in a ‘learn-to-skate’ program, but by the time they are playing hockey, they should learn proper stick position)
  4. What kind of instructor:player ratio should we expect to see? What kind of training do the instructors have?
  5. What should we expect to see during a typical ice session? What skills should be accomplished by the end of the course?

Why Aren’t Quantum Speed Spring / Summer Camps Available for Younger Players?
The Quantum Speed program is built on the fundamental assumption that Technique + Power = Speed (T+P=S). While this assumption applies to all age levels, the tips, tricks, strength exercises, and explanations require a certain basis of skill level, strength and understanding. Younger players require REPETITION first and foremost and must have a solid grasp of fundamentals. When this fundamental basis is established, then "Skatrix" can be added to maximize speed. After 25 years of instruction, we have concluded that generally, a first year bantam player has the skill level and the level of understanding required to get the most out of the Quantum Speed spring and summer programs.
