each SHIFT requires a change in your mindset but that change is not as big or
as hard to make as you ‘think’. Steffany’s

In this post,
we invite you to engage in the understanding and learning of how YOU are the driver
of that SHIFT. Regardless of whether you
are training in a group, playing on the first line or the fourth, learning to
be SELF-ish is a SHIFT.
and ringette are team sports and you must put the team ahead of yourself during
the season for many reasons. BUT the MindShift
here is that I want you to understand that, as an individual, you need
to be well trained, well organized, well prepared and ready before you can put
anyone, including your team, ahead of you.
What I mean is that to be a GREAT teammate, you need to be a GREAT
person, knowing that YOU have done all you can in all areas of your game to
contribute without barriers or excuses. You need to be SELF-ish.
Speed, our commitment to you is that whatever Quantum Speed Program you’re
registered in offers you multifaceted support to help you take your skating and
your game to the next level. In fact, we
insist on it. On-ice technique, off-ice
biomechanical exercises, mental training, you name it, we’ve got you covered.
But do YOU
have you covered? YOU are in the
driver’s seat of any training program you undertake, or in anything you do to
improve yourself for that matter, and you need to make sure that you take away
the most you can from every opportunity you’re given to be a better YOU. You need to be selfish. Say what?!?
Yup, you heard that right. But
we’re talking about a special kind of selfish….
Technique Week of the Technique + Power =
Speed format of your Quantum Speed Q3 or Q3i Program as an example. We’ve specifically designed Technique Week
to not only give you the opportunity to be, but to teach you to be,
selfish. Being selfish in this context
is not a negative. What we mean here is
that we simply want you to learn to put yourself in the centre of your training
- to be focused on YOU so that YOU get the most out of the OPPORTUNITY you or
your parents have paid in order for you to fine-tune your skating
technique. We want you to put the
emphasis on the SELF in SELF-ish.
But how do
you BE selfish in this more positive way and make the most out of that
opportunity? You DECIDE how YOU are
going to participate on that first day of training. Are you going to sit back and observe? Are you going to stand by and judge? Or are you going to be fully present and
engaged in what you’re being asked to do?
Which method of participation do you think you’ll gain the most
from? That’s right – the last one, the
one where you’re fully present and engaged!
first two methods of participation, you’re basically losing that first
day. The training schedule is relatively
short so if you lose EVEN ONE day, you have to understand that that is one day
you will NEVER get back. The last method
enables you to squeeze everything out of your training opportunity that you
can. So, no matter whether it’s your Q3
or Q3i Program, or any other activity you ‘participate’ in to improve yourself
as a skater, a player, an employee, a student, whatever, require one thing of
yourself - be SELF-ish – BE
